Dr. Dan Blumenthal, an ACPM member, shares his thoughts on the importance of supporting ACPM.

ACPM Member and Donor:
Daniel S. Blumenthal, MD, MPH

Location:
Atlanta, Georgia

Education:
Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health,
Atlanta, Georgia; University of Chicago, Pritzker
School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois; Oberlin College,
Oberlin, Ohio

Why I feel it is important to donate to charity:
Charities help those less fortunate than ourselves. ACPM, though, can do more; we can advocate for new policies and promote healthier lifestyles in order to improve the health of the nation. ACPM is only a charity in the IRS sense of the word; but like charities that feed the hungry and clothe the naked, we cannot function without adequate resources.

Most fulfilling aspect of donating to the ACPM:
Knowing that I’ve helped to improve the health of my professional organization.

How I hope my donations have helped others:
The quickest and surest route to reducing health disparities and promoting health equity is through prevention, and furthering the cause of prevention is what ACPM does.

What I’ve learned through my involvement with the ACPM:
I’ve learned about the diversity of the field, both with respect to the professional interests of the members and the variety of their perspectives on the issues of the day.

Something about me not everyone knows:
I try to play the piano a little. I hope that I may be allowed to provide the background music at a future ACPM social event.
